oven maple bread
Don’t you just love the smell of fresh baked bread in the kitchen? With a list 30 ingredients long on the labels of some grocery store breads, it can get a bit stressful knowing which to choose that will feed and not harm our bodies.
Lucky for us, Warren loves to bake, and has perfected this crusty bread which gets gobbled up by the family within minutes!
Only 5 ingredients (if you count water as an ingredient!) and you have this basic bread. From here one can get creative if you’d like, adding seeds, herbs, or whatever extras your family enjoys.
If you try baking this, give a shoutout in the comments, and show us your creations too!
What You’ll Do:
Stir together the flour, salt and yeast in a large bowl.
Heat Maple Syrup in microwave for approx 20 seconds until runny.
Mix together the warm syrup with the very hot water, and then stir into the dry mixture until well mixed. Do not over stir.
If dough appears too dry, add more hot water 2 tablespoons at a time until the consistency improves. If dough appears too wet, add flour 1 tablespoon at a time until the consistency improves.
Cover and let stand at room temperature for 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 450° F with a 6-quart Dutch oven with lid in the oven right from the start. Here’s a beautiful cloche that’s just the right size for this recipe!
After the dough has rested for the hour, place it on a well-floured square of parchment paper and sprinkle with a little flour and fold dough over 15 times & shape into a smooth ball.
Score the top with a knife with a simple hashtag or criss-cross.
Lift the parchment paper and dough bowl and place into the hot pot. (parchment paper goes in the pot to keep it from sticking) Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove lid. Return, uncovered, to oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool on rack until cool enough to slice and enjoy!
Be prepared to have your fresh baked bread disappear fast and have your family ask you to make more tomorrow! (or is that just us?)
